I just read a book called Marcus Loses Patches, written by Clifton Holland and illustrated by Joel Snyder. It is about a boy named Marcus who loves video games — and what happens when he forgets to look after his dog, Patches. Here is my review! 🐶
The characters
- Marcus — He loves playing video games.
- Marcus’s Mom — She is a little strict with Marcus.
- Marcus’s Grandpa — He loves Marcus.
- Patches — Marcus’s dog, who really likes his food!
Where it happens
The story takes place in the city.
The problem
The trouble starts because Marcus is so busy playing video games. His mom tells him to feed Patches, but even 45 minutes later he still hasn’t done it! Patches gets really hungry, and because Marcus left the gate open, Patches runs away — probably to go looking for some food. Marcus’s mom is very upset that the dog is lost, but she doesn’t scold Marcus too much.
How it ends
Marcus and his mom go out together to look for Patches. After searching, they find out that Patches is safe and sound at Grandpa’s house. What a relief! 🎉
What I think ⭐
I think this book teaches you to take care of your responsibilities — like feeding your pet — even when you really want to keep playing. I felt bad for Patches when he was hungry, and I was so happy when they found him safe at Grandpa’s. It reminded me that video games can wait, but the people and pets we love need us. Thumbs up from me! 👍
